The Long Strides Marathon Training Program is designed for runners of all levels to complete a 26.2 mile Marathon or a 13.1 mile Half-Marathon. The training group meets Saturday mornings at 7:30 AM for the weekly group long runs in Encino, CA. Rain or Shine, we run! Training for the 2009 Los Angeles Marathon (March 1) will begin September 6, 2008. Registration is now open for the LA marathon and other winter or spring marathons. You are welcome to begin training with the group as soon as you are registered. Training for the 2008 Chicago Marathon (Oct. 12) and the Long Beach Marathon (Oct. 12) are currently in session. The training fee for pre-registration is $100. If you register with a friend you will each save an additional $5. NEW: Online marathon and half marathon training is now available for any marathon you choose. If you are not able to commit to the Saturday meetings, but still want a coach for your training, then this is for you. Your training program is based on a questionnaire that you will fill out, your race distance, amount of training time, and your goals. You will receive emails of your training schedule as well as other support emails. You will have access to your coach for any questions you may have via email and phone. You will receive a performance training shirt and a referral list of services as well as discounts at select local running stores. For more information, call or (714) 928-0520. Fees will be per race/training session (typically 5-6 months). The 2008 LA Marathon was completed by all of the registered Long Strides trainees once again. We had one trainee follow up the LA Marathon with the June San Diego Rock n Roll marathon with a 5 minute personal record! She followed that with the August San Francisco Marathon and had a 21 minute personal record! We had 4 Long Strides runners set personal records in the LA Marathon 2006! We had a personal record of over 40 minutes set by a Long Strides runner at the Long Beach Marathon 2006! All of the Long Strides trainees have completed their marathons since the program began in September 2003 (for the 2004 LA Marathon). Great job everyone! Training is available for other requested marathons and half marathons any time of the year. A marathon calendar is available upon request. Jogging strollers are welcome, but please, no dogs. More Benefits: Your long runs are local in the San Fernando Valley. You will receive a free performance running shirt with your registration (1st time participants) as well as a weekday training schedule and referral list of services.
